Traveling during the Holidays

I am a premature packer. My husband gives me a hard time about it but I take pride in my packing abilities. I actually enjoy it! With the holidays...here, my packing season has begun. I normally take up my entire bed when I pack (the photo above is just for show, haha). I make stacks with my clothes based on the day and activities for the day (for example: Thursday - Thanksgiving Dinner, comfortable army green dress with grey tight. Friday - 6am shopping at outlets, sweatpants and comfortable shoes!).
If you're traveling across the country or across the street this Thanksgiving Thursday, be safe, be happy, and most of all be thankful :) Happy Thanksgiving!

Dresser Top Make-Over

If you're anything like me...you probably leave the top of your dresser looking like a bomb exploded on it in the morning. I normally have make-up, jewelry and bobby-pins scattered all over the place only to come home that evening wondering, "what was I doing this morning?" Well I've come up with a solution that seems to be working out quite nicely. I went over to one of my favorite places, The Container Store , and searched to see what they might have to help. I finally decided on the above wooden bathroom accessories to house my make-up and jewelry. Now when I'm doing my make-up in the morning (not lucky enough to have a lovely vanity bathroom yet) I grab my make-up brushes from their "toothbrush holder" and drop them right back in when I'm done. I grab my bronzer and blush from the wide box and place them back nicely. It's helped my morning routine run a little smoother....now if I could just get out of the bed without snoozing 3 times, I'll be in great shape!

Do I really need a reason to shop?

I recently started a new job...YAY! In my previous job, my work dress code consisted of jeans, jeans, and more jeans. I would wake up and figure out what jeans I wanted to wear and then decide if I wanted to dress them up or down. The process was pretty simple. Now, I work in a business casual environment and after just two days at my new job I'm struggling to figure out what to wear Monday. I love a good reason to go shopping (I'm sure my husband isn't a fan of that philosophy), but I feel like that's the easy way out. So this weekend I'm asking for your advice on how I can spice up some items I already have in my wardrobe. I already have some ideas but I'd love to hear all suggests! Thanks and have a great weekend everyone :)

Tis' the season for...window dressers!

My book of the moment, Simon Doonan's Confessions of A Window Dresser, is a great book to read right in time for the fun holiday season. One thing that I absolutely love about living in New York City is looking at all the department store holiday windows come alive. Doonan, the amazing Creative Director of Barney's New York, tells a great story of how he came to be one of the best known window dressers in the world. His story is funny, encouraging, and inspiring for anyone that's not quite sure what they want to do in life. Doonan wasn't really sure what he wanted to do but he knew he was destined for greatness. I love that he took advantage of just about every opportunity given to him. He's just doing what he loves...you got to love that!

What you think about my new frames?

I found out about this great eyeglass company called, Warby Parker, from my husband. In his beloved GQ magazine a few months ago, he read an article about an eyeglass company that allowed you to "test" frames at home before buying them free of charge. The frames cost only $95 and get this....the lenses are FREE! I know crazy right? But that's not all, they also donate a pair of eyeglasses to someone in need for every pair of eyeglasses they sell :) Needless to say, since the GQ magazine plug, their demand for "testing" frames at home has become overloaded. But for this lucky New Yorker, they have a showroom in the city now. I was able to go and try on all the frames and decided on the above style...what do you guys think? All orders are done online so you'll have to wait to see what I look like wearing my new spectacles...but if I don't like them for some reason, I get 30 days to return them. How sweet is that?!

Halloween NYC 2010

 Me as "Medusa"
 "Rachel Zoe"
 "Avatar"
a toddler as "Chucky"
Oh how I love Halloween...especially in a fun city like NYC! Anyone can throw on a scary mask but I love when people get really creative with their costume. Above are a few of my favorites from yesterday and my costume as well. I really liked the idea of making my hair look like snakes and putting snakes in my hair. The funniest and creepiest was the little kid dressed up as "Chucky"...wearing no mask, no wig! Hope your Halloween was fun, safe, and memorable. Time to start thinking of the costume ideas for next year :)
