Late night shoot for....Padmore!

I like to think of myself as a multi-tasker...this shoot is a perfect example of that. I had a summer bbq and at the end of the festivities, I helped my friend with a photo shoot for her swimsuit line. The young lady behind the line Padmore, is very talented and destined for great things so keep an eye out for her. She wanted to use the cool Roosevelt Island night time view as a backdrop for her swimsuits. I think it came out pretty cool!

Fun Fashion Friday: Leopard print!

It's funny that leopard prints are so big for this fall because I spotted a few leopard while on safari in Africa this summer (see my own top photo). With this beautiful print trending everywhere, I decided to go through my closet and see what I had already to "walk on the wild side"!
Happy Friday and don't forget to have fun with fashion!!!

Two of my favorite things!

I recently subtled upon an editoral that had two of my favorite things...Marc Jacobs and HBO's True Blood! Deborah Ann Woll, who plays Jessica on True Blood, looks beautiful in Marc Jacob's Fall 2010 collection. Everything about this editorial is great...Deborah, her hair, her make-up, and of course the awesome clothes!

Fun Fashion Friday!

With August right around the corner there are some very exciting things coming up in the fashion world. One is New York Fashion Week in September debuting at it's new home, Lincoln Center. Two is the coveted September Issues! As many of you know I love fashion magazines so September issues are my thing! Above are August issues that I got to prepare myself for the exciting Fall 2010 season. I'll post a full report soon but some items I'm already looking forward to are: leopard print, retro looks, and shearling coats!

Fashion with a Purpose!

Last night was the third annual Human Intonation Fundraiser Fashion Show. The new collection from the "fashion with a purspose" brand is the best yet! My favorite item (that I didn't get a photo of sadly, but plan to buy so stay tuned!) is the "Haiti Rebirth" tank top in slate. Please check out the website at http://www.humanintonation.com/ to learn more about this awesome brand and to check out the amazing new collection. 20% of sales generated by each shirt goes directly to the cause the shirt represents. As Ghandi said, "Be the change you want to see in the world", and why not look cute making a difference too!

Sisterly Love

I was blessed to have two great sisters. My mom was blessed with going into labor with my younger sister the night of my older sister's birthday party. This blog post is dedicated to both my sisters and celebrating their birthdays this week. All three of us have our own sense of style that distinguishes us. My older sister does a great job embracing new trends while maintaining a chic classic look. My younger sister has a fun and funky approach to her wardrobe. My style is somewhere in the middle, which is appropriate because I am the middle sister :)
Happy Birthday Eboni and Ashley... get it divas!!!

Double Take

Have you ever been shopping for someone else and found the perfect thing and then thought..."hey, I think I want one too!"? Well, while shopping for souvenirs in Melville, South Africa I did just that. I found the shirt in the photo above and thought it would be great for my little sister. Sure enough they had two so I got one for myself as well :) What I like about this shirt is that it has a unique look about it. It's kind of homemade looking but it looks like it could also belong in a Marc by Marc Jacob collection. I hope she likes it...I know I like mine :)

Fun Fashion Friday!

Fun and flirty...that's my fashion theme for the rest of the summer. With record high temperatures this weekend up and down the east coast, I know that the "dog days" of August in New York City are upon us. But just because it's hot doesn't mean you can't look cool! Above is an example of what I mean by fun and flirty. The tunic length top is perfect for steamy weather (even long enough to wear over a bathing suit at the beach!). This nail polish color is my new fave hue (or should I say all time favorite color). Paired with fun jewelry like this yellow bracelet (which I brought off a $1 jewelry table in SoHo a few years ago), you can't go wrong.
Stay cool during this hot weekend everyone!

Time Square's Newest Attraction: Forever21

The next time you're in New York City and need a cute top or fun accessories at say 1am in the morning...have no fear, Forever21 Times Square is here! I was finally able to check out the new Forever21 in Times Square today. One cool thing about the store is that 3 of the 4 floors are located underground. The merchandising and layout of the store is great. I love the giant purse, lipstick and mascara with the mannequins on the accessories floor. Since the store is opened until 2am every day and gets new shipments every day, there is no excuse for shopping in "The city that never sleeps"! Enjoy :)

Tearing pages out of magazines

I spent the weekend looking through magazines and pulling tear sheets. I pulled the above for an upcoming photo shoot I'm working on...the looks make me wish I was sitting on a beach somewhere...

Fun Fashion Friday!

This mag kept me in the fashion mix while on my South Africa trip....South African ELLE, love it! I read about a lot of cool South African brands like nap and Black Coffee.

Fun Fashion Friday!

With the steamy summer weather we had last week in NYC...I decided to take on a classic DIY project of creating a pair of denim cut-off shorts. Do-it-yourself projects are one of the fun things I love about fashion...turning something old into something new :)

Life Backstage

Photo: smh.com.au

Photos: Style.com
This month, I've had the privilege of volunteering backstage at a few fashion shows here in NYC. I love the atmosphere backstage at a show from the anticipation to when the show starts to the thrill when it's finished. Above are a few images of looks I executed/dressed models for backstage from the recent NYC amFAR charity event, Oscar de la Renta Resort Collection, and Calvin Klein Resort Collection.

Fun Fashion Friday!

Happy Friday everyone! This Friday I'm dedicating my post to making dreams come true! I'm a huge believer in willing things to happen. I love fashion and want to always work in fashion so I have an aspiration/inspiration board in my closet with clippings of all the things I love about fashion and life. It's fun to look at in the morning when I'm getting ready and at night when I'm getting ready for bed (the numerous necklaces have been added over time out of necessity...running out of space, lol). I think everyone should have something that they can look at on a daily basis to give them a little inspiration. It helps to remind us of our goals in life. It could be a prayer printed out at your desk, a picture of your ideal retirement setting as your computer desktop background or a picture of your kids on your phone. Always try to have a little reminder close by of the things that make you smile!

Sex & The City 2 Review

There has been much debate over the Sex & The City sequel. I was finally able to see SATC2 and I have to say "I LOVED IT!". I'm not sure why it received such harsh reviews. I know a lot of people complained about the over the top wardrobe but hello it's SATC in Abu Dhabi...if it wasn't over the top, I would have been disappointed! Of course I loved the comeback of the J'adore Dior tee (in photo above). During the movie I whispered to my friend, "I want to dress like that everyday!". I love the fact that the SATC ladies dress so well (thanks Patricia Fields!). I think all women should put forth the effort to add that extra sparkle to their lives. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't have to cost a fortune. Fashion is all about looking amazing using your budget. So I give SATC2 two thumbs up for reminding me to make sure I always put my best shoe forward whenever I walk out the door!

What I love!

I was recently asked to be featured in a publication for the company I work for and they wanted me to be photographed with "what I love". I'm not going to lie, I was a little torn on what to pick at first...my shoes, my handbags, there are so many things I love! Finally my friend and I decided on photographing me with fashion magazines (hello...I love fashion) with NYC as the backdrop (I heart NYC)! Check out a few of my favorite photos from the shoot...it was a lot of fun!

Summertime Wedding Rehearsal Dinner Attire

Today I'm going to my good friend's wedding rehearsal dinner and I'm so glad that the weather has decided to cooperate. I plan on wearing this cute little sun-dress I purchased at a recent sample sale. I love the  structured sweetheart bodice and whimsical print. With a cute shrunken navy blazer and wedge sandals, I think this is a perfect outfit for a casual summertime wedding rehearsal dinner! I have to go pack so I can get out of here...have a great weekend everyone :)

Fun Fashion Friday!

One of my all-time favorite movies...Funny Face is a classic fashion movie that is definitely fun to watch. I never get tired of seeing Jo and Dick Avery dancing and singing around Paris! The costume design by Hubert de Givenchy and Edith Head is amazing! My favorite look is the black and white polka dot strapless gown with the deep aqua opera cloak and gloves...awesome!

The Military Shirt

Today I'm wearing a new men's top I got at a sample sale. I like it because of the military green and utilitarian vibe it gives with the snaps, pockets, and patches. I decided to belt it with this thick men's brown belt...me and all my menswear, lol!!!

Nordstrom Rack in NYC

Nordstrom now has a NYC location...well not exactly :) The new Nordstrom Rack opened in Union Square yesterday and I'm happy. I ventured in to check it out and I was very pleased. The shoe and accessories sections had designers like Betsy Johnson, L.A.M.B, and Marc by Marc Jacobs. The only thing that confused me was the entire store was downstairs. The street level of the old Virgin Records Megastore still had covered windows. Maybe this means they'll be another opening later this summer??? Needless to say, the downstairs portion is still definitely worth checking out.
